What You’ll be Doing as a Senior Care Assistant
Your key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with washing, dressing, undressing, changing pads and sheets, and repositioning
- Conducting regular checks on residents, supporting who are unwell, and monitoring emotional and physical well-being
- (If trained) administrating prescribed night medications and monitoring side-effects
- Communicating about resident developments to nurses, management, and day staff
- Mentoring, supervising, and leading junior care assistants, and teaching new staff
- Updating personal care plans and daily notes via manual or digital systems
- Using slide sheets, hoists, and other aids for transfer, in a safe manner
- Acting as the lead in challenging behaviours, accidents, or medical emergencies
What We Are Looking For
Successful candidates typically demonstrate:
- NVQ/Diploma Level 3 in Health and Social Care or an equivalent qualification
- Medication administration certification or proof of competence in administering managing medication
- Specialised training (if applicable) on palliative care, manual handling, infection control, and dementia care
- Proven ability to lead and delegate to junior staff
- Ability to identify risks like infections, falls, and pressure sores and escalated them properly
- Ability to maintain accurate written or digital records
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and in emergency situations
- A genuine desire to support people who are vulnerable
